Prerequisite: High School Writing Methods

This living books course, designed by Beth Hempton, includes class discussion and analysis, group activities, creative expression as well as the traditional literature class aspects. The reading list combines novels set in various British time periods, short stories and poetry. Students focus on the works of amazing British authors as models of excellent writing. Assignments range from essay writing, shorter writing work, vocabulary, graphic organizers and more. Students explore literary elements, figurative language, poetry styles with an emphasis on comprehension. 

Weekly homework reinforces the concepts taught in class and the teacher is available during live office hours and by email to assist students. Assignments are graded and students receive a mid-term report as well as a year-end course credit report. Students may take this class for honors credit.
