In this practical and use class, students learn how to plan, research, compose, practice and deliver different types speeches. Students also study various types of media, listen to and watch noteworthy speeches by famous speakers and evaluate those speakers. The class covers the elements of communications, verbal and nonverbal messages, tone, reading your audience, interview skills, informative speech, persuasive speech and overcoming speaker anxiety.
Weekly practice reinforces the concepts taught in class and the teacher is available during live office hours and by email to assist students. Assignments are graded and students receive a course credit report at the end of the semester. Students may take this class for Honors credit. The Honors option costs an additional $25 per class.
